B.A. (Hons.) LL.B., J.D., CPCA, LL.M.(Tax), EPC, TEP
Jennifer’s practice is based primarily on Wills, Estates and Trusts. After her call to the bar in 2009, she began her practice with Sweatman Law Firm in Oakville, a specialty Wills and Estates practice where she primarily conducted estate litigation. In 2016 she joined Ross & McBride LLP in Hamilton, where she became a partner and leader of the Estates Department. More recently, she has been a partner with Miller Thomson LLP as head of Estates and Trusts for the southwest region. Her practice focuses on wills and estate administration, specializing in complex planning issues.
Jennifer is very excited about this opportunity to take the reins from Ted and is looking forward to building her specialized Estates & Trusts practice in the Brantford area. Like Ted before her, Jennifer is one of the few lawyers in southwest Ontario certified by the Law Society as a Specialist in Estates & Trusts. Jennifer’s qualifications also include law degrees from both Canada (LL.B.) and the U.S. (J.D.) and a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Tax. She is certified by the Society of Trusts & Estates Planners (TEP) and the Estates & Planners Council (EPC) and is a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA). Jennifer also conducts real estate and corporate matters.

Alan has practised commercial and civil litigation in Ontario for over 30 years, spending 15 years at the Toronto office of what is now Gowling WLG, followed by 5 years with them in Hamilton. In 2011, Alan started his own firm under the name Butcher Litigation.
More recently, Alan has moved toward a mediation practice for civil and commercial matters and will now bring his extensive litigation experience to mediation services in Estate matters, working collaboratively with Jennifer.
